Fiona Shea is a 16-year-old violinist currently enrolled in the Texas Tech University ISD high school program. In January, 2015, she won first prize in the Schmidbauer International Competition and performed as concerto soloist with the Orchestra of the Pines in Nacogdoches, TX. She was also named the Grand Prize Winner of the 2015 Juanita Miller Concerto competition held in Dallas, TX. As a result of this honor, she will perform as concerto soloist with the Mesquite, Waco and Conroe Symphonies in the spring of 2016. In her second year as a Texas Music Educator’s Association All-State orchestra member, she won, by competitive audition, the position of concertmaster of the 2015 TMEA All-State Symphony, the top all-state orchestra in Texas. She was also honored by the Texas division of the American String Teacher’s Association, winning first prize in the junior division of the 2014 solo competition and received an honorable mention in the junior division of the national ASTA competition in 2015. Most recently, she appeared as a soloist at the Lubbock taping of the NPR program, From The Top with Host Christopher O’Riley, which will be aired in April, 2016. In recent years, Fiona has performed as concerto soloist with the Interlochen Center for the Arts summer program orchestra, the Youth Orchestras of Lubbock Symphony and the Jacksonville, Illinois Symphony. She was a member of the Youth Orchestras of Lubbock Chamber Music Program. Miss Shea studied with Dr. John Gilbert, Professor of Violin at Texas Tech University and is now currently attending the Coburn Academy in Los Angeles.
