2011-2012 Concert Series:


October 2, 2011 at 3 pm

Our season-opening concert, generously sponsored by the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, will feature the Grammy-nominated cellist Bion Tsang. Selections will include "Danzon No. 2" by Arturo Márquez, "Cello Concerto #1" by Camille Saint-Saëns and "Double Cello Concerto" in G minor by Antonio Vivaldi. Mr. Tsang will be joined on the Vivaldi concerto by his wife, cellist Amy Levine-Tsang. A reception for all VIP ticket holders will follow the concert.

Winner of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Bronze Medal in the IX International Tchaikovsky Competition, Grammy-nominated cellist Bion Tsang has appeared with the New York, Moscow and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras; the Atlanta, Pacific, Civic, American and National Symphony Orchestras; the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Taiwan National Orchestra. Mr. Tsang is on the faculty at the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas.

King Ranch Goes to the Movies!
Our annual King Ranch Spectacular Concert returns to the movies with fantastically entertaining guest conductor Lee Gwozdz. This concert of favorite movie themes is sure to delight audiences of all ages.

Lee Gwozdz returns to Jones Auditorium as HoLEEwood - Conductor of the King Ranch at the Movies. He serves as director of music for the Corpus Christi Cathedral, executive director of The Cathedral Concert Series, and conductor of the Cathedral Festival Orchestra. Maestro Gwozdz is also in high demand as a guest conductor for orchestras internationally and has worked with many major performers, from Placido Domingo to Michael Martin Murphy.

Help us welcome spring with a concert featuring pianist JooHyun Lee, as she performs Beethoven's magnificent "Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73" ("Emperor Concerto"). Also on the program will be "Sensemaya" by Silvestre Revueltas and ""Symphony No. 6" by Tchaikovsky.

A native of Seoul, Korea, Pianist JooHyun Lee earned a doctoral degree in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music at Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Jean Barr and solo piano with Nelita True. Ms. Lee also received a master's degree at Eastman School of Music following her undergraduate degree studies in Piano Performance at Seoul National University. She is currently a Lecturer in Piano at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
This concert is dedicated to the memory of Kingsville Symphony Orchestra Board Member Aurora A. Garza.

A Patriotic Celebration
Get into the mood to celebrate the 4th of July with a concert filled with patriotic music. Virtual fireworks are included!

Veterans and active duty military will be admitted free of charge.
